Unplanned Development

2015

One year in the making, Unplanned Development is an artful attempt to capture the phenomenon of urban sprawl. In January 2015 I rolled out my 8’x3.5’ site and began construction; no blue prints, no roughs, no straightedge. What emerged was a chaotic and mesmerizing landscape of architecture—a dynamic interplay between mass and void.

Like the urban environment, the piece is a dichotomy—forcing viewers to feel simultaneously alienated and engulfed, and to confront their role as participants in the systems that consume them.

As both image and experimental process, it’s my hope that Unplanned Development will inspire dialogue on the implications of untempered growth and the patterns by which we organize, and often disorganize, our landscapes.
